Google AdSense Video Units now available in more countries and languages around the globe. Now you will be able to to generate additional earnings with YouTube videos.

Apparently Google has heard AdSense user claims from other countries and has decided to expand Video Units in YouTube for more languages & countries. Initially, the program was available only for the United States, Canada & United Kingdom.

Here is the list of all new supported languages.

    English
    French
    German
    Japanese
    Spanish

And here is the list of all countries where Video Units will be available.

    Australia
    Brazil
    Canada
    France
    India
    Ireland
    Italy
    Germany
    Japan
    Mexico
    Netherlands
    New Zealand
    Poland
    Spain
    United Kingdom
    United States

Mexico has an early advantage, is the only country in Latin America where this new feature will be available.

To take advantage of this feature available in Google AdSense Program, sign in to your AdSense Account and go to AdSense Setup tab to start, be sure to sign in also to your YouTube account to link both Accounts, its an easy step where YouTube confirms your actual record with the next data: your email account, telephone number and zip code. After that, you will be able to customize and embed your video player into your website or blog, and choose between having videos automatically targeted with your content or manually select content categories and content providers. This way, companion and text overlay ads will begin to appear with your videos and you will begin to generate additional earnings for valid clicks on those ads.

Online video advertising will grow faster the next year, that’s why I suppose Google is opening right now the market to more countries and languages. If your country or language is not available now, just be patient, it won’t be long to arrive.

To learn more in how to setup video units take a look to the next video.

August 14th, 2008 · No Comments

Yesterday I received my daily doses of news, and in my ComScore newsletter I saw these simply amazing statistics.

FaceBook & Hi5 are the fastest growing social networking websites around the world. Take a look at ComScore comparison chart.

The next graphic shows a growth comparison between the mayor social networking sites.

As you can see, all social networking sites are rapidly growing around the globe, but FaceBook is simply the world leader in this area. Amazing fact, FaceBook explodes in Latin America 1,055% in just one year. See again ComScore comparison chart.

The magic word is “Socializing“, people love to chat, video chat, photo sharing, blogging, messaging and  share anything sharable.

FaceBook is opening the doors to a whole new community, FaceBook habla español, and almost 20 languages more.

LinkedIn, another big business & social community is also opening the arms to the Latin America market, and with so many users, FaceBook & LinkedIn are running their inner advertising network to take advantage of this huge market.

What can we expect in the near future? more social networking growth in all the countries. One important fact is that ComScore comparison chart is not taking in count to the biggest online video sharing site, YouTube, which is available also in almost 20 countries.

With all these communities growing so fast, they have become in an excellent place to advertise anything, are you ready to take advantage of the world’s larger market?

Online video viewing preferences in US revealed by MetaCafe survey

August 13th, 2008 · No Comments

MetaCafe receives more than 30 million unique viewers each month. Via Business Wire, Magid Associates & MetaCafe have released an interesting survey results, they show that short form videos dominate online viewing; the survey was intended to know more about consumer behavior and preferences in online video viewing. The most popular categories of videos watched online are all short-form: comedy, music videos, videos shot and uploaded by consumers.

Mike Vorhaus of Frank N. Magid Associates.
“Online video has rapidly become not only a mainstream cultural phenomena, but also a powerful marketing vehicle for all brands that want to reach consumers who no longer watch as much TV – and even fewer Television commercials”

The national study, conducted by Frank N. Magid Associates, surveyed almost 2,000 people between the ages of 12 and 64; with age, gender and ethnicity representations. The survey results show the following data.

50% of all respondents watch online video weekly.
11% of all respondents watch online video daily.
28% of those who watch online videos report watching less TV as a result.
19% of those who watch online videos report regularly sharing a link to a video with someone else.

The top five most commonly viewed types of online video content, based on respondents reporting that they watch regularly, are:

    Comedy / Jokes & Bloopers, 37%
    Music Videos, 36%
Video shot and uploaded by consumers, 33%
    News Stories, 31%
    Movie Previews, 28%

Erick Hachenburg, CEO of Metacafe.
“Online TV or traditional networks distributing their own shows on the Internet, is really just the same long form programs, and with the same audience, supported by the same advertisements, only the delivery platform is the difference. We’re excited about this new and growing opportunity short form video entertainment presents, and we are committed to growing our leadership in this sector.”

Online video has become one of the most influential internet marketing strategies, having presence in some mayor video sharing site is a must if you want to increase your online visibility. Practically all video sharing sites offer a free account, if you don’t have a camcorder, you can use even your cell phone to record a video or simply create a Power Point presentation and upload it as a video, but … if you really want a professional video presentation for your company, products or services, you will need to pay for it, but I am sure it will worth every cent that you invest on it.

If you see any search results in search engines, you will find frequently a wide variety of video results from different online video sites.

Google offers MP3 music search to compete with China giant Baidu

August 9th, 2008 · No Comments

With more than 200 million online active users, China is the largest online community outside of the U.S. territory; Google attempts to increase his market share with this new alternative.

China search engine Baidu dominates completely the Chinese online scene with 60 % of the search market; Google takes 2nd place with 26% and Yahoo 3nd with almost 10 %.

Baidu offers search services like the other search engines, but there are some interesting options that we wont find in Google, Yahoo or MSN. It’s interesting how culture is an important factor to Baidu, the search options result logical with the China ancient culture, the image shows you Baidu search services, where you will find options like: Culture search, youth search, ancient literature & MP3 search.

In China, piracy is a big problem, and the music is not the exception, industry analysts estimate that 90 % of Chinas 162 million online users access pirated music from their computers every single day. The industry has made several attempts to stop Internet companies (including Baidu) from facilitating access to unlicensed music, but they have received mixed results from Chinese courts. Free music also entices more users to come back for another services and helps Baidu to sell more advertisement.

Badu search traffic for MP3 music is at least 7% of its total, and Google is trying to grab more traffic offering MP3 music search only for legal & licensed music.

With only 8 years online, the influence of Baidu in China is too much, Robin Li, Baidu cofounder explains:

We’ve been the No. 1 Web site in China for a number of years, and in fact we are the largest Web site outside of the U.S., when people get to know about the Internet, the first Web site they learn is about Baidu in China.

Google rules search engines around the world except in 2 countries, China & Russia, 2 hard rocks that in my personal opinion Google wont be able to crash, Why?, Russia & China are under the communist shadow and they have very different cultures. As I mentioned, Baidu takes 60% of Chinese search and Yandex takes 44%, ten points head Google and besides is the second most used search engine in Europe. Take a quick tour in the next video to learn more about Baidu.com

What can we expect from Google fight against these 2 Internet monsters? Leave a comment.

Influence of Beijing Olympic Games 2008 on Google Image & SERPS design

August 8th, 2008 · 2 Comments

Google Olympic designs.

Google main page and search result pages are characterized for showing a clean and simple design in all the countries where Google has presence. Nevertheless, several times a year, Google changes the logo in his main page making reference to some events, anniversaries & special characters.

Here are some good examples that I have archived since Olympic 2008 opening.

But Google SERPS design have never been changed until now, in Beijing Olympic Games 2008, Google has broken his rules adding an image in SERPS, these designs are shown only in Google China, and this is the first time that I see a clear change in Google SERPS design, I don’t know why, maybe China bought the space to reinforce the Olympic image or it’s just s Google tribute to Beijing Olympic Games 2008.

The next images show you what I am talking about, Google China SERPS and image design alone. And If you didn’t know, iGoogle is the only way that you can customize your Google Image, you can change and customize many many things including image header and things you are interested in, take a look to my iGoogle in the last image.

US Delta airlines flight provides wireless internet access. No VoIP

August 7th, 2008 · No Comments

Delta airlines flights will provide wireless internet access in all US territory. No VoIP calls allowed. Flights going in and out of Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco & Miami on Boeing 767 will be first to enjoy Wi Fi service.

Delta Airlines, the largest domestic carrier in the country recently merged with Northwest Airlines expects to have more than 330 equipped airplanes to provide the service by the end of the next year, they will be the only major US airline to offer this wireless service.

The service provided by Aircell’s GoGo is affordable, prices for regular flights, less than 3 hours, $ 9.95 USD and $12.95 USD for longer than three hours.

The well recognized columnist from Wall Street Journal, Walt Mossberg made a test flight from San Francisco to Aircell’s home base in Colorado to test out the service. He averaged 500 to 600 Kbps down and 300 Kbps up, not a blazing speed, but nevertheless fast enough to access decently all your needs. One important factor is that Skype or messaging services with VoIP capabilities are not allowed.

The next video shows all the details, watch Walt Mossberg explaining his test results and how the service will work.
