Delta airlines flights will provide wireless internet access in all US territory. No VoIP calls allowed. Flights going in and out of Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco & Miami on Boeing 767 will be first to enjoy Wi Fi service.

Delta Airlines, the largest domestic carrier in the country recently merged with Northwest Airlines expects to have more than 330 equipped airplanes to provide the service by the end of the next year, they will be the only major US airline to offer this wireless service.

The service provided by Aircell’s GoGo is affordable, prices for regular flights, less than 3 hours, $ 9.95 USD and $12.95 USD for longer than three hours.

The well recognized columnist from Wall Street Journal, Walt Mossberg made a test flight from San Francisco to Aircell’s home base in Colorado to test out the service. He averaged 500 to 600 Kbps down and 300 Kbps up, not a blazing speed, but nevertheless fast enough to access decently all your needs. One important factor is that Skype or messaging services with VoIP capabilities are not allowed.

The next video shows all the details, watch Walt Mossberg explaining his test results and how the service will work.
